Kindergarten

Kindergarten is a time of newness: starting a new school year, and perhaps, for some, starting a new school; meeting new people and making new friends; learning more about our big, wonderful world!  It's is the excitement of watching children grow academically, spiritually, and physically from September to June.

  • Learn to follow directions
  • Read and write our ABC's
  • Learn about God and His Creation
  • Develop a broader understanding of the world around us
  • Work and play together
  • Count and computer and learn other math skills
  • Encourage self-expression through drawing and writing
  • Practice good citizenship
  • Question and experiment

We encourage you, as the parent, to discuss each school day with your child.  Ask open ended questions and offer positive feedback.  It is important to review all work that is brought home and to take an active part in your child's school.

As with the other grades at St. Peter's, we follow all of New York State and Diocesan curriculum; the Learning Standards are followed in all subject matter.

In addition to the subjects of Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science, Handwriting, we study Religion.  Religion is the reason why we exist.  Teaching of God, His Creation, and the value of each child.  We participate in weekly liturgy, as well as special Advent and Lenten devotions.

The children also participate in Art, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, and Computer along with a Library class each week.

To enrich each of these areas, we take educational field trips including Murphy's Orchard in Burt, NY; the Niagara Falls Aquarium; the Children's Holiday Festival at Niagara Falls High School; and theater experiences at Artpark and Theater of the Youth (TOY) in Allentown.   Our in-class guests have ranged from a weather man to a story book princess, each event adding to the learning experience.  We have special celebrations to commemorate the 100th day of school, birthdays, Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day.

Our goal is to give each child a well-rounded education, with the emphasis on prayer and God in their lives.
