The St. Peter's Pre-Kindergarten program focuses on
the development of the "whole" child: the social,
intellectual, and physical development. Through
hands-on learning and real world experiences, the
students learn beginning language arts, math, science,
religion, and social studies concepts. Our students also
benefit from attending art, music, gym, library,
computer, and Spanish classes. Additionally, as
part of the St. Peter's school family, they participate
in school-wide activities, such as Thanksgiving
luncheon, Gingerbread House, Christmas program, and
class field trips.
Our Pre-K program fosters independence in young
children. Our students not only learn to become
independent thinkers, but also learners. We teach
them the value in education. Through positive
reinforcement and modeling, our students learn good
socialization skills and manners.
Our program largely focuses on emergent literacy. The
children are exposed to a print-rich environment.
The room is labeled and the children can chose to go to
the "writing center" during free play. We read
stories and poems, make books, sing songs. We also
participate in the Scholastic Book Clubs and Book-It.
Our program also focuses largely on play. The
students have free play everyday, which includes ten
different centers to choose from: Writing,
library, dramatic play, puppets/dress-up, cars/tools,
blocks, art, computer, or listening. The benefits
from play are endless! Play helps foster social,
emotional, physical, and intellectual development in a
child.
Parents are also an essential part of the team.
Our teachers keep a constant communication with parents,
through notes, email, and the SchoolNotes website. Also,
as a special "goodbye" gift to the students and parents,
each student has his/her own portfolio, which parents
receive in June after graduation. The portfolio
includes evaluations, art work, pictures, and more.
Be assured that our Pre-K program is well structured to
prepare your child for Kindergarten.
