Congrats to 7th
grader Josh Kumi
Josh has qualified to represent St. Peter’s in the
state National Geographic Geography Bee to be held on March 30,
2012 at the New York Museum in Albany. Pictured is Joshua with his
medal for winning the local school competition.

The team's season has been exciting from the
start. The boys went into the diocesan playoffs following an overtime
loss to Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament (the #1 ranked big school in
WNY) in the second round of the
St. Mary’s of Lancaster Parochial Basketball
Tournament. They defeated the 14 Holy Helpers of West
Seneca in the opening round of that tournament by the score of 39 to
13. Michael Gabriele had 14 points for the Panthers, while Juan
Gascue and Colin Winkworth each added 8 points in the winning
effort. Ryan McGrath
added 4 points and 8 rebounds for the Panthers, while point guard
Chris McGovern added 9 assists for the Panthers.

The Future Looks Bright!
Our Future City Team takes 8th place, Most
Unique Engineering Award at this year's competition
The St. Peter RC School Future City Team won the Award for the Most Unique Engineering Design at the WNY Regional Competition that was held on January 21st 2012 at Mt. St. Mary’s Academy. The team placed 8th overall in Western New York. The competition has 4 main components first an essay and a city narrative, then the virtual city made with a SimCity computer program, finally on competition day they are judged on their scale model and presentation. The preparation for the competition takes many hours of afterschool time but in the end the team pulled through with the highest finish that the team has achieved in the 6 years that their teacher Ms. Lisa Drennan has been in the competition, along with their engineer mentor from CWM Chemical Engineer Chris Nicastro. The Future City Team consisted of seven, 8th grade students; Matteson Bancroft-Billings, Thomas Cauley, Michael Gabriele, Nina Grenga, Seamus McGillion, MaryJo Rotella, and Colin Winkworth. The model is on display at The Niagara Power Project Power Vista until February 26th 2012.
